Tango Zen Things

  1. Focus on one step at a time. Don't try to think about all of the steps at once or to rush ahead. Simply focus on the step you are taking at the moment and do it to the best of your ability.

  2. Move with intention. Don't just go through the motions. Be mindful of each movement and make sure that it is intentional and expressive.

  3. Be present in the moment. Don't worry about what happened in the past or what might happen in the future. Just focus on the present moment and the dance.

  4. Do less, but do it better. It's better to focus on a few well-executed steps than to try to do everything and end up looking sloppy.

  5. Leave space between things. Don't try to cram too much into each dance. Leave some space between the steps and let the music guide you..

  6. Develop a pre-dance ritual. This could be something as simple as taking a few deep breaths or visualizing your dance. Having a ritual will help you to focus and center yourself before you start dancing.

  7. Designate time for practice. Just like any other skill, tango takes practice to improve. Make sure to schedule some time each week to practice your steps and your connection with your partner.

  8. Devote time to meditation. Meditation is a great way to develop concentration, focus, and presence of mind. These qualities are essential for dancing tango with heart.

  9. Smile and connect with your partner. Tango is a social dance, so make sure to enjoy yourself and connect with your partner. Smile, make eye contact, and have fun!

  10. Make dancing a meditation. Focus on your breath and on your body's movements. Let go of any thoughts or worries and simply enjoy the experience of dancing.

  11. Think about what is necessary. Don't worry about trying to be perfect or to do all of the fancy steps. Just focus on the basics and on connecting with your partner.

  12. Dance simply. Tango is a beautiful dance, but it doesn't have to be complicated. Simply focus on the connection with your partner and the music, and let the dance flow naturally.
